This week’s project was all about upgrading a home’s lighting setup with sleek, modern LED solutions. From decorative fittings to smart lighting, this job combined practicality, aesthetics, and a touch of personalization. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how it all came together.
The Job
The task involved:
- Installing two decorative LED light fittings.
- Upgrading existing light switches to LED Pro dimmer switches for better control and energy efficiency.
- Removing over-bookshelf fluorescent lighting and replacing it with a stylish and versatile Philips Hue V4 LED ribbon light.
Getting Started
The first step for any job is preparation. I made sure all furniture and flooring were protected before starting, using protective sheets to prevent any dust or damage. With gloves on (to avoid marking the fittings or ceiling), it was time to get to work.
Communication was key for this project. I had a detailed conversation with the client to confirm the height and placement of the new decorative fittings, ensuring they’d be perfectly positioned to suit their space and personal style.
The Process
Here’s how I tackled each part of the job:
- Decorative LED Fittings Installation
After confirming the placement, I carefully installed two stunning LED fittings that now serve as the centrepiece of the room. Gloves were a must here to keep the fittings spotless during installation. - LED Pro Dimmer Switches
To give the client full control over their lighting, I upgraded their switches to LED Pro dimmers. Once installed, I programmed the dimmers to set the maximum and minimum light levels for a smooth dimming experience. This allows for perfect ambience lighting, whether it’s a bright workspace or a cosy evening setting. - Bookshelf LED Ribbon Lighting
The existing fluorescent lighting above the bookshelves was outdated, so I replaced it with Philips Hue V4 LED ribbon lighting. This solution not only looks sleek but also offers customizable colours and brightness through smart controls. The client now has a modern, flexible lighting option to highlight their shelves beautifully.
The Finishing Touches
Once the installations were complete, I tested everything to ensure it was working perfectly. From dimmers to ribbon lighting, every element was functioning smoothly. I also tidied up the workspace, leaving the area spotless, and removed all protective coverings from the furniture and flooring.
The result? A happy client with a beautifully upgraded lighting system that’s both functional and stylish.
